Jaime W. Dunton 1933 – 2020

One of the great leaders in the firm’s history, Me. Jaime W. Dunton.

Me. Dunton distinguished himself through his legendary composure, his unique sense of humour and his openness to Quebec culture.

Born in Montreal in 1933, Me. Dunton studied at McGill University (B.A., 1953; B.C.L. 1956) and was called to the Bar in 1957. He began his career at the law firm Lafleur, Brown, Pitcher, Boulton & Lamb before joining the litigation department of the Canadian International Paper Company in 1960. There, he worked with the Honourable Gerald LeDain, a former partner of the firm who sat on the Supreme Court of Canada from 1984 to 1988.

In 1965, he joined the firm of Riel, LeDain, Bissonnette, Vermette & Ryan. In 1988, the firm adopted the name Dunton Rainville.

Me. Dunton practiced mainly corporate and trademark law. He represented and advised a large clientele consisting of international companies in the pulp and paper, telecommunications, information technology, engineering, finance and accounting sectors.

Me. Dunton was also Mayor of the Municipality of Hatley from 1996 to 2003.

An artist and talented musician, he performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (Met) with the St. Lawrence Choir on several occasions and also had the opportunity to perform with the OSM Choir.
